Instructional Departments: Family and Consumer Science

Welcome to the Family and Consumer Science Homepage!


The Family and Consumer Science department offers two Career Education Programs:
Culinary Arts and Child Care, along with several related electives.
The Culinary Arts Program
Basic Food Preparation I, Basic food Preparation II, Advanced Food Preparation and Advanced Food programs take our students from the necessary basics of food groups, tools, procedures and processes to the planning, preparation and assumption of management roles within the realm of commercial food preparation.
Electives include: Creative/Foreign Foods (BFP I required).

The Child Care Program
Intro to Child Care  Grades 10,11,12
Child Care 1  Grades 11,12
Child Care 2 Grade 12.
The emphasis of this series of courses is to develop the student's background in basic child development. The sequence of courses moves then through to developing teaching and learning strategies for our students to utilize in the operation of our Rainbow Express, our Child Learning Lab.
