TECHNOLOGY
The technology curriculum at Pinelands is evolving
from a traditional industrial arts program to one that
develops more contemporary marketable vocational skills.
The middle school program offers students a
project-based opportunity to work with conventional
skill tools as they create projects ranging from
racecars to rockets. At the high school, programs of
study include sequences of coursework in graphic art,
photography, construction skills and drafting. The
traditional drafting program at Pinelands has been
replaced by a computer-based AutoCad
course-of-study. Students learn to design
projects on the computer using state-of-the-art
AutoCad software and powerful Dell Optiplex
computers. Computer Technology students build
computers and learn to troubleshoot and repair
them. Our computer networking course teaches
students to administrate and maintain fundamental
computer networks. This year, we are putting the
finishing touches on our refurbished graphics and
photography lab. Visual technology students now
have new computers, new reproductive color copiers,
and new photographic process equipment. Perkins
Grant funding provided much of the equipment.
Our new 9th grade Small Engines Program at the Junior
High School has become very popular. Working
with Briggs and Stratton vertical and horizontal
engines, students learn the essentials of the internal
combustion engine. In the near future, repair
and maintenance of simple marine engines will be added
to the course of
study.
Students are exposed to a number of new technologies
including computer aided architectural design, graphic
design, and desktop publishing.
